TELLURIDE HOCKEY
Code of Conduct

The purpose of this agreement is to lay out clear expectation for players, coaches, parents and all individuals associated with Lizard Head Hockey. Telluride Lizard Head Hockey Club serves to facilitate and promote the game of hockey but its first and foremost concern is to develop exceptional individuals who demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times and lead by example. With those goals in mind, the following expectations must be met by all individuals associated with the Club. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action that may include removal from the Club. If you have any questions about the following criteria we encourage you to seek clarification from a member of the board.

Players

As a player with Telluride Lizard Head Hockey, I agree to:

  • Give 100% effort at practice and in games
  • Play by the rules of the game
  • Remain respectful toward other players, coaches, referees and spectators and not engage in retaliatory behavior
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship, lead by example and encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players
  • Never argue or complain about referees’ calls or decisions
  • Make every effort to attend ALL practices and games and arrive on time to team events
  • Communicate in advance with coaches and managers if you have a conflict
  • View playing hockey as an opportunity to learn and have fun competing
  • Focus on doing your best in school
  • Will not partake in illegal drug, alcohol or tobacco use

Parents

As a parent with the Telluride Lizard Head Hockey, I agree to:

  • Encourage my child to play by the rules. Remembering, children learn best by example, so I will applaud the good plays of both teams.
  • Not embarrass my child by yelling at players, coaches or officials.
  • Not question, discuss, or confront coaches / officials at the rink or at an event. Take time to speak with coaches / officials at an agreed upon time and place.
  • Never yell or physically abuse my child after a game or practice. Not ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • Recognize the importance of volunteer coaches. Communicate with them and support them.
  • Demand that my child treat other athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  • Refrain from coaching my child or other athletes during competitions and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
  • Remind my child that school comes first and respect the recommendations of my child’s teachers and coaches in academic and athletic planning.
  • Alcohol is strictly prohibited at youth practices or games.
  • Inform TLHHC of all existing medical conditions which could affect my child’s safety.

Parents when you are spectating or volunteering in the score box:

  • Display good sportsmanship. Always respect players, coaches and officials.
  • Act appropriately; do not taunt or disturb other fans; enjoy the game together.
  • Cheer in a positive manner and encourage fair play; no profanity, no objectionable gestures.
  • Support the referees and coaches by trusting their judgment and integrity.
  • Respect locker rooms as private areas for players, coaches and officials.
  • Be supportive after the game – win or lose. Recognize good effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Coaches

As a coach with Telluride Lizard Head Hockey, I agree to:

  • Treat all players, officials, coaches and community members with dignity and respect
  • Design safe, challenging, appropriate and engaging practices to best use ice time and cultivate player/team development
  • Represent Lizard Head Hockey well – behave with dignity and respect at all hockey functions, especially on the bench and at the rink before and after games
  • Support ALL players regardless of skill level or background
  • Promote a safe, supportive and sportsmanlike atmosphere on and off the ice
  • Keep perspective and remember the goals of our club
  • Abide by the Safesport rules and regulations
  • Seek support from hockey coordinator, board members and other resources to effectively and appropriate address challenging situations
  • Do my best to remember to be patient, supportive and understanding – we do this for the kids!
